The "Sustainability Game" and the 2024 MF / IMC Montessori Conference

If you are an AMS member, you probably saw that email about their new professional development course on teaching sustainability in the classroom. I was impressed as I learned more about this comprehensive professional development program focused on sustainability. It certainly appears to be an excellent opportunity for educators to deepen their understanding of teaching sustainable practices in the classroom. If you're eager to dive into this topic further, I suggest you take a look at my free lesson plan called the "Sustainability Game." it is the ideal appetizer to whet your appetite before starting their comprehensive program.

The 'Sustainability Game' is versatile, has a low barrier of entry for younger children but enough strategy for older kids, and requires collaboration. This easy-to-learn interactive game allows players to delve into the complexities of sustainable decision-making in a fun and dynamic way. The participants are challenged to think outside the box if they want to be successful. The tricky situations the children encounter while playing the game serve as a metaphor for the same decisions that world leaders face. It challenges participants to think critically about real-world situations, fostering a sense of accountability and awareness about their choices. It's a hands-on introduction to the principles of sustainability.

And guess what?

If you are attending the IMC conference in Atlanta right now, you can play this game with me in person on Saturday! I guarantee that after the conference session, when we will indeed play the game, you will feel comfortable taking it back to your students to play! I'm so excited to introduce an innovative lesson plan that I believe will be the perfect opening act for our discussions on sustainability. This engaging and interactive activity captures the essence of sustainability and sets the stage for deeper conversations around environmental stewardship and responsible practices.

So, if you are intrigued by the AMS sustainability professional development program and eager to jumpstart your learning, I encourage you to download the "Sustainability Game." If you are coming to the IMC Atlanta conference, come play the game in person to experience how easy but complex this game can be. I promise this is an active presentation and not a lecture.

I look forward to coming to Atlanta ready to engage, learn, and hopefully inspire people with the power of learning through play!
