Montessori Physical Education and Tomorrow's Child Magazine

Thanksgiving gives us time to be with friends and family. For educators, we get a much-needed break. However, we can't help thinking about our educational practices even when we are supposed to be resting. For our classroom teachers, it is conference time, which allows us time to reflect on our students and our own instruction. One of these topics is how to increase Social and Emotional Learning in our classroom. Montessori classrooms have a significant head start on SEL topics. The Montessori curriculum seamlessly integrates with SEL through topics like the Great Lessons and Peace Education. In traditional education, physical education teachers have been tasked with increasing SEL in their practices. What administrators don't realize is that the foundations of sportsmanship are built upon social and emotional learning principles.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’m thankful and proud to announce that my blog posts on Sportsmanship and Social, Emotional Learning were printed in the November issue of Tomorrow’s Child. The article is featured on the cover of the magazine.

It is also on the website's front page (Montessori.org) under the free reads section!

Tomorrow's Child is the magazine of the Montessori Foundation, the International Montessori Council, and the Montessori Family Alliance. Every month, it features articles written by experts throughout the Montessori community, access to free webinars, and your subscription includes an MFA membership. Here is a link to the Tomorrow’s Child website.

The Montessori Foundation is a non-profit educational organization that supports Montessori schools around the world and provides a trusted source of information and Montessori programs for families. The International Montessori Council is a professional organization offering mentorship, accreditation, and a wide range of resources and programs for professional development. Finally, the Montessori Family Alliance is an international network of parents, teachers, and friends interested in learning how to support their children at home and school. Together, these three organizations provide comprehensive resources for all facets of Montessori education to schools, educators, and families.

Thank you again to Tomorrow's Child and the Montessori Foundation for helping me share my work with the Montessori community. As a physical education teacher, I aim to enhance PE in Montessori schools by showing the power of integration with the classroom curriculum. As an athletic director and coach, sportsmanship is the philosophy at the heart of how student-athletes learn, practice, play, and compete. I am grateful to Tomorrow's Child and the Montessori Foundation for giving me their platform to share my work with all of you.
